CS526 S2012 Final Review
CS526 S2012 Final will be in "lab" examine. 5/7 Monday, 4:30-7pm. In EN233 lab, with Internet Access, Open book,
Open note, No Chat, No notebook, No texting, No PDA.
Topics to be covered:
Content Switch
- What is TCP delayed binding? Name two ways to improve it.
- Without TCP delayed binding, what could go wrong in the return server responses and how the client will handle it?
- Why the current browser such as Microsoft IE does not support pipelining
multiple requests in a single TCP connection?
Cloud Computing
- What are advantages and disadvantages of usign commerical cloud computing facilities such as Amazon AWS?
- What Xen provides that are uniques? Why paravirtualization is faster than that of fullvrtiaulation?
- Amazon AWS provides users with five different regions to host their virtual machines and storages. How one goes about the selection of regions?
- Within an Amazon AWS region, there are 2-4 availability zones.
- What is available zone?
- Should we spread virtual machines in different zones or locate themin the same zone? Discuss the design trade-off.
- What credential one use to access the virtual machine after it is first created for Windows? How about for Linux?
- Why and how we use Amazon EC2 API?
Wireless Sensor Networks
- Wireless Sensor Characteristics:
- What are basic resource constraints that make the design and operating of wireless sensor network challenging? Name four.
- Which constraint in wireless sensor network is unique and does not observe in wired network?
- Crossbow has motes operating at 433, 916 MHz? What is the trade-off of using
these different frequency?
Which has the longest antenna?
- What are the major differences between Mobile Ad Hoc Network and Wireless
Sensor Network?
- For the same size of messages, which operation use more energy, transmission or reception?
- What is in-network processing?
- Cluster formation and Sink Tree formation.
http://cs.uccs.edu/~cs526/wsn/WirelessSensorNetwork.ppt pages 15-17.
http://cs.uccs.edu/~chow/pub/conf/SUTC2006/TowardsPowerEfficientClusterFormation.doc
- What is the main purpose of forming clusters when deploying wireless sensor network without knowing a priori the locations of each sensor?
- Describe one approach for forming a cluster efficiently.
- What condition will trigger the re-election of the cluster leader or another round of cluster formation phase? Name one.
- Describe one appraoch for forming the sink tree from sink node to each of the cluster leader nodes.
- Most of the wireless sensor network has a design goal of maximizing the operating life time of the network. But there may be other contradicting goal. Mention one example.
- The sink tree represents the routing pattern where the sensor nodes send sensor data towards the sink node and along the way these data are merged or processed by the intermediate cluster leaders or routing nodes. There is a name for this communication pattern. It ends with 'cast' as suffix. ______cast. Fill the blank.
Answer 3 basic questions related to 3 of the six semester project presentations.
