From the 2/21/05 minutes Memorandum of Understanding on the interpretation of the committee duties: the final wording suggested by Shub and Dean Haefner was approved: The bylaws state: This committee conducts a continuous study of all policies affecting the educational function of the College of Engineering, reviewing entrance and graduation requirements, the various curricula in relation to one another, space allocation and utilization, and any administrative acts related to the educational effectiveness of the curricula or faculty. It reports regularly to the faculty and refers to the faculty its findings for final action. The Committee is also responsible for new course approval. Interpretation of the Duties 1. The vehicle for reporting to the faculty will be through the Dean via notice of meeting actions. The Dean will then have responsibility for seeking appropriate action from the faculty. 2. The Faculty has delegated to the committee the power to recommend courrse approvals directly to the dean without seeking faculty approval. 3. The duty of studying the various curricula in relation to one another includes recommending approval or disapproval of all new programs (including but not limited to degree programms, certificate programs, distance education programs, and minors), as well as all changes to existing program requirements. 4. The review of entrance and graduation requirements is part of studying various curricula in relation to one another 5. The review of space allocation and utilization will normally involve responding to specific questions about space allocation and utilization. 6. The study of any administrative acts related to the educational effectiveness of the curricula or faculty. shall include college, campus, or system policies. 7. The committee expects that if the dean believes a proposed college policy will impact curricular issues, then the dean will run the proposed policy by the committee for comment
