Incompletes will be given only for serious emergencies or other documentable extenuating circumstances clearly beyond the student's control. Incompletes normally will NOT repeat NOT be given to students who abandon the class, students not satisfied with their grade, students who are too busy to complete the work on time, and stu- dents who miss the final exam. B. After the Census Date (September 11) I will not sign drop slips unless the student, in my judgement, is passing the course. C. After the Drop Deadline (October 31) I normally do not sign drop requests. D. Make up exams are NOT given. Special arrangements may be made 2 weeks or more before any examination. Students entitled to alternate testing environments must inform the instructor within the first two weeks of the class. E. Because this is a 200 level course, Computer Science Department Policy requires that attendance be taken and that the final grade be reduced by one letter for each four (4) unexcused missed classes. 3. Classroom Decorum: A. Kindly set your cell phones, pagers, or other electronics to silent mode while in class so as not to disturb other students. B. Kindly arrive on time and do not leave until dismissed so as not to disturb other students. 4. Late homework will NOT be accepted for credit. Computer crashes are NOT repeat NOT an excuse for late homework. Homework with syntax errors will get a maximum of 25% credit. Homework with obviously wrong output will get a maximum of 50% credit. Students will be expected to know material covered in prereq- uisite courses. 6. Students will work alone. General principles may be dis- cussed. Advice from other students should be taken with a grain of salt. 7. The instructor has commitments that will conflict with office hours as follows: NCAA meeting November 12 through 15 NCAA meeting December 3 through 7 8. There is an optional Class e-mail list. This list is maintained by positive subscription only. The instructor may, from time to time, send e-mail of interest to the addresses maintained in the class e-mail list. Use of electronic mail is encouraged, with the following caveats: a. Homework assignments not explicitly requiring e-mail will NNNNOOOOTTTT be accepted via e-mail. b. The instructor, when replying, will NNNNOOOOTTTT manually edit addresses. c. Unless Explicitly stated, the instructor will NNNNOOOOTTTT accept e-mail with attachments. d. The instructor does not read his e-mail with a web browser. As such, inclusion of HTML tags in e-mail is frowned upon. 9. Office Hours will be announced in class.
