PROBLEM
Cannot establish wireless connection when wireless card is inserted in:
a) upper PCMCIA slot of Toshiba Satellite 4080XCDT laptop
b) lower PCMCIA slot of Dell C610 laptop.
802.11a card in slot produces "Media Disconnected" message when IPCONFIG command is entered.

802.11b card in slot produces no DHCP assignments when IPCONFIG command is entered.

RESPONSE
Use other PCMCIA card slot.
Configuring a card on one slot does not mean the other slot will accept it.
Separately configure each slot to accept the 802.11a cards.

SOLUTION
Each slot is now configured to accept the 802.11a cards.
All cards now work in all slots of the Dell & Toshiba laptops.
